An event dedicated to the Khojaly Genocide was held in Estonia
A commemoration event dedicated to the 33rd Anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide was held in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
At the beginning, the memory of martyrs of the Khojaly Genocide was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Having an introductory speech at the event, Ambassador Anar Maharramov provided detailed information about the fact that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces, in severe and gross violation of the norms and principles of the international law, committed a war crime with particular cruelty against peaceful and innocent Azerbaijanis living in the city of Khojaly.
It was noted that during the attack on Khojaly by Armenian bandits, more than 600 civilians, including many children, women and the elderly, were brutally murdered.
A. Maharramov noted that the Azerbaijani state, as well as Azerbaijanis living abroad, Azerbaijani public organizations, including the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, have made a great contribution to informing the world about the Khojaly Genocide. In this regard, the “Justice for Khojaly!” campaign, which has been widely promoted by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, has reached out to various parts of the world.
It was emphasized that this terrible crime against humanity should not go unpunished and should be condemned by the world community. It was brought to the attention of the participants that many countries have already recognized the Khojaly tragedy as genocide at the state or parliamentary level and condemned this bloody crime. In this regard, the importance of the annual adoption of the Statement condemning this genocide by Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group was highly appreciated.
It was brought to the attention that today the city of Khojaly has been restored and revived after being liberated from occupation.
Having a speech at the memorial ceremony, the Chairman of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Riina Solman, assessed the massacre committed in Khojaly as a bloody crime against humanity and emphasized the importance and significance of the Statement adopted by the friendship group on the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide.
Highly appreciating the existing political relations between Estonia and Azerbaijan, Riina Solman noted that the congratulatory letter addressed by President Ilham Aliyev to President of Estonia Alar Karis on the occasion of this country's national holiday is a clear example of that.
Then, the documentary "Endless Corridor" by Lithuanian film directors Aleksandras Brokas and Mindaugas Urbonavičius, produced as part of the "Justice for Khojaly!" campaign, and a photo exhibition reflecting the horrors of the Khojaly Genocide were shown.
Later, books, brochures and publications prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation about the Khojaly Genocide were distributed to the participants of the event.
The memorial event was attended by members of the Parliament of Estonia (Riigikogu), former Estonian Foreign Minister Kristiina Ojuland, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Brazil, North Macedonia, Moldova and Ukraine in this country, public figures, scientists, representatives of the Azerbaijani and Tatar communities, as well as young Azerbaijani compatriots studying in Tallinn.
