On May 28, on the occasion of the Republic Day, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Estonia has organized a formal reception in „Radisson Blu Sky“ hotel.

After playing the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Estonia, Ambassador Murad Najafbayli spoke about the significance of May 28 – the Republic Day, the history of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan. Although the first Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan excisted 23 months, it contributed to the world's statism and history of democracy. Ambassador informed the guests about the great achivements in building up the state, saying that the first Democratic Republic in the East - the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, parliamentary and multi-party government, as well as achieving the state attributes, in Azerbaijan for the first time in the East, women were given the right to vote. Prior to the invasion by the Soviet army in 1920, the independence of the Republic was recognized by 26 states, diplomatic relations were established with 19 states.

Ambassador also paid attention to the significant challenges in the past 25 years since the Republic of Azerbaijan regained its independence in 1991, mentioning the offensive military invasion of Armenia resulting in occupation of 20% of the territory, more than 1 million Azerbaijani refugees and IDP’s as a result of ethnic cleansing.

Ambassador emphasized that although Azerbaijan has been subjected to the occupation by Armenia, the country has achieved great success in the fields of economic, social and diplomatic affairs, all this thanks to the national leader of Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev.

According to the Ambassador, president Ilham Aliyev successfully ensures the sustainable development of the country's ongoing political and economic reforms. Carried out activities are a logical continuation of the far-sighted wise policy of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. At the end of the speech Ambassador pursued that over the past 25 years Azerbaijan has shown itself  as a reliable partner in regional development, security and stability, as well as in the contribution to multiculturalism.

The formal part was followed by a banquet.

Various videos presenting Azerbaijan’s economy, tourism possibilities and culture were shown, featured with Azerbaijani music.
