On March 8, 2016 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Estonia, H.E Mr. Murad Najafbayli met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, H.E Mr. Taavi Rõivas in the Stenbock House, the official seat of the Government of Estonia.

Ambassador informed Prime Minister about the socio-political and                         socio–economic situation and the country’s achievements under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Ambassador stressed that Azerbaijan considers the development of the non-oil sectror very important and that the expanding cooperation with other countries in that sphere allows the implementation of auspicious politics.

Ambassador M. Najafbayli informed the Prime Minister about the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, the continuation of aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, the occupation of 20% of Azerbaijan’s territory, resulting in over a million refugees and displaced persons, as well as Armenia’s imitation of negotiations on peaceful settlement of the conflict.

When it comes to political sphere, both parties noted the high level bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Estonia, the current status and future perspectives on the economic relations were discussed. In this regard, the importance of the activities of the existing Intergovernmental Commissions  on economic-trade cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia was stressed. In order to increase the efficiency of the Commissions’ work, both parties pointed out the necessity of particular attention to its new structure, stressing the importance of having a wide range of representatives from various organizations. The  Commission could be used as a platform to realise a great potential of bilateral economic relations between Azerbaijan and Estonia.

Both sides emphasized the importance of mutual high-level visits, which would contribute to the development of bilateral relations and give an impuls to business circles of both countries.

During the meeting, bilateral relations, as well as multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia were discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister confirmed Estonia’s readiness in cooperating with Azerbaijan in all spheres and expressed confidence that the economic cooperation will be raised to the same level with political cooperation between two countries.
